Our story

Nomiki and Ilias opened a small taverna on this bay in 1995. They wanted to call it Paradise. The name was taken, so they chose the closest word to how they saw the place: Paradisio.

Thirty years on, it is still family. Ilias is the face of the house. Nomiki still makes the traditional Kalymnian recipes. Michalis, the second generation, runs the kitchen, and Giannis looks after the room. The heart is the same as on day one: fish from our own local fishermen, bread we bake ourselves, and a table nobody rushes you away from.

Greek and Mediterranean cooking that follows the sea and the season. Michalis cooks what our fishermen bring in that morning, and Nomiki still makes the Kalymnian dishes she has made for thirty years.

Good to know.

Where is Paradisio in Kalymnos?

Paradisio is right on the pebble beach of Vlychadia (also spelled Vlichadia or Vlyhadia), on the south coast of Kalymnos, a short drive from the port town of Pothia.

What are the opening hours?

From May to early November we are open every day from 09:30 to midnight: coffee and breakfast in the morning, then lunch and dinner. The kitchen serves all day, so a late lunch is no problem.

Do you serve breakfast and coffee?

Yes. We open at 09:30 and coffee has always been one of our passions, so you can start the day with a really good coffee and breakfast by the sea.

How do I get to Vlychadia, and is there parking?

Vlychadia is about 6 km from Pothia, a 5 to 10 minute drive. There is free parking right next to the restaurant for our guests. Buses to Vlychadia are rare (usually one or two a day), so most people come by car, scooter or taxi.

Is Vlychadia good for children?

Very. The water in the bay is shallow and calm, so it is one of the best beaches on Kalymnos for small children. We also have sunbeds and umbrellas on the beach.

Is the beach sheltered from the wind?

Yes. When the strong north winds (the meltemi) blow, Vlychadia stays very protected, so it is a good choice on windy days. We also have a covered area if it rains.

Are dogs welcome? Is there wheelchair access?

Dogs are welcome in our open-air space. The restaurant has wheelchair access, and our toilets are accessible too.

Do you serve cocktails and food on the beach?

Yes. Our full menu, cocktails and spirits are served all day, from 09:30 until midnight. On top of that, there is a light beach snack menu until 17:00.

What kind of food does Paradisio serve?

Greek and Mediterranean cooking: fish from our own local fishermen, bread we bake ourselves, prime cuts of meat, and Kalymnian classics such as mermizeli salad and fylla, the island's dolmades, made with Nomiki's traditional recipes. There are vegetarian and vegan options too.

How do I book a table?

Use the chat on this website or call +30 22430 22764. Your request reaches our team on WhatsApp and we reply to confirm your table.

Are children welcome?

Yes, families are very welcome. Children love swimming in the bay right in front of the tables.

Can we have a wedding or christening at Paradisio?

Yes. We host weddings, christenings, birthdays and company events by the sea for up to 140 guests, with the whole venue or a private part of it for smaller parties. Music can play until 02:00. Our event menus include unlimited beer, wine, water and soft drinks.

Is there a shop at Paradisio?

Yes, the Paradisio Concept Store is right inside the restaurant, with island-style clothing, jewellery, bags, sun hats, swimwear and souvenirs, made by Greek designers and many of them handmade.
